On tap at Ballast Point – Miramar, SD
06/25/2015 - Served in a tulip glass
Listed as an Experimental IPA – 6.1%ABV
A: Burnished golden amber body with some copper like hues and a very well-conditioned clarity in appearance. A smallish lipper of tan foam settles out on the surface only retaining for a couple minutes. Some very light dots and dusting of stick but nothing too major.
S: Fruity and tropical with mango and lychee fruit coupled with some zesty pink grapefruit and a touch of pineapple. I am getting this slight skunky sulfuric twang as well that is hard to pinpoint. Similar to how some Lager yeasts kick off. Not enough to be detracting but present none the less. Not much in way of malt here. Ad din some mild herbal quality and overall this is has some nice inviting tropical fruit and flowery hops.
T: All that juicy fruit definitely carries over into the flavor with a nice tropical floral flare to it. Lychee fruit, green melon, ripe mango, and a light sugary pineapple presence are fairly stand out. The malt is rather unobtrusive here and only adds in a bit of sugary cracker to the mx. Fairly resinous on the hops with a moderate amount of bitterness and the alcohol well incorporated throughout. Finish is crisp dry and refreshing with more tropical notes and a little spice added.
M: Moderate to lighter body with a fair amount of crisp from the carbonation. Lightly bitter with some resinous linger. Dry in the finish.
D: Not bad at all but a little different or unique for sure. No further notes on this one other than its “experimental”. Definitely some wild new hops at play. Would have again.
