On Tap at Ballast Point – Homebrew Mart
Full pint served in a Tulip glass - Notes taken on 05/21/2015
Listed as the R&D Simcoe IPA
A: Lightly burnished golden caramel body with a well-conditioned clarity. A half finger width of ivory suds caps the top before residing out to a crown around the glass. Nice sticky swaths off lace decorate the glass walls in a broken track like pattern.
S: Super shot of Simcoe hops here. Zested grapefruit with green berry, dank herbals, and resinous pines. There lies some bready malt cracker underneath providing some sugary bits to the nose as well as some alcohol detected. Really nice fresh Simcoe hop aromatics here.
T: Simcoes Simcoes Simcoes…all juicy grapefruit flesh with sticky pines and a touch of dirty herbals mixed in. Moderately high amount of scrubbing bitters hit midway with plenty of malt backing to support the balance here. Delivers on some bready cracker and a touch of caramel sweetness. Finish is dry and resinous with more dank and a light kick of alcohol spice. Very well rounded for a single hopped IPA.
M: Creamy body with a moderate amount of filling. Nice bitter bite to it with some good resinous linger. Light drying effect in the finish.
D: Solid brew. Simcoes still deliver. Tasting super fresh. I could drink this on the regular.
