Served in a pint glass at Violet Crown in Santa Fe.
A- Pitch-black body and khaki- and oatmeal-colored head. Lace-heavy and the head is sticky and filmy. 5
S- Plenty of barrel aroma giving oak, leather and bourbon. Dark chocolate and coffee play the back but are present. 4.25
T- Damn, tastes like the bourbon was just poured into the beer. A little heavy for me. Spicy bourbon notes feel like a rye almost and to a certain extent, cover all the base beer flavors. Only on the finish do I find the rich coffee and chocolate flavors. With warmth it opens to sweeter vanilla and coffee and cream, so I'd say, warm it up. 4
A bit thin and boozy is how I'd describe the feel, but just like the taste, warmth brings improvement. 4
Pretty good but the beer and barrel don't quite successfully integrate.
