IMO, this checks off all the boxes for a session ipa. It has the aromatics of an ipa, combined with the light mouthfeel and thirst-quenching quality of a session beer.

Avg as far as NEIPAs go, thought Ballast would bring it a bit more.

Inherently the New England styled IPA have a lot of stuff in them. Equally as inherently, the session IPA would have very little stuff in it. So, the counter clash of cultures has the Ballast Point brewers working hard to fuse the two into on coherent beer.

Pale gold and reasonably hazy for standard IPA, Passing Haze builds a frothy white cap and an aromatic blend of citrus, light tropical fruit and a decent smack of herbs. A light sweetness of wafer and honeysuckle sprinkle the early palate with an introductory malt influence.

As the sweetness fades quickly, its the hops that do the heavy lifting on the middle palate. Lemon, orange and pink grapefruit cast a fruity net across the tongue before trending moderately bitter with fresh cut grass, dried herbs and an overall chive, pine and pith character.

Light in body but retaining a mild semblance of creaminess, Passing Haze isn't quite fruit forward enough to qualify as anything associated with the haze craze and is also not light enough to be a session IPA. But what's caught between is a nice and drinkable ale with clean and crisp attributes that'll likely fall unmemorable for the tastebuds.

From the bottom of the can: "PH4 14:47 PKG 12FEB 19"

Appearance: The beer has a jelly opaqueness with a light gold body and a sparse white head that looks stringy.

Aroma: Large notes of garlic and onion. It smells a bit like a stew.

Taste: Very catty. It has more of that garlic and onion flavor mixed with salt. There is a bunch of cabbage and Summer squash flavor. It's not very appealing. Towards the end of each sip there is a bit of pineapple skin flavor.

Mouthfeel: It feels heavily over-carbonated and it doesn't feel as smooth as the average New England IPA.

Overall: Much is left to be desired in this beer. Ballast Point has been making juicy IPAs for a while now, and it is very disappointing to see this come out of their brewery. It is easily surpassed by their regular lineup and it doesn't even compete in the New England IPA market. I would recommend against trying this beer and I won't be buying it again.

This is an empty beer. A once excellent brewery has fallen far since being bought out by Constellation. Unless I hear that they have produced an unusually great beer I won’t be buying Ballast Point or Funky Buddha. I hope Constellation goes out of business.

Pours a sliht hazed yellow color. Smell has citrus ,lemon bread and grain. Taste was watered down lemon citrus had a grain and baked bread finish. Watery mouth feel with just faint citrus hop. A hoorible brew

Tastes like decent IPA that was watered down. Once one of my favorite breweries, Ballast Point has fallen off.
