Favorite beer today at Ballast Point's 11th Anniversary Celebration
Served in a five ounce taster glass with a medium reddish brown color and a small soapy head that settled down pretty fast, served at the perfect warm, but too warm temperature
Smell was all malt, sugary accents, and a lot sweet dark fruits were evident throughout the aroma
Taste was by far the best barleywine I have ever had, I blame this mostly on the 1996 version of this beer because it must have mellowed so nicely and offset the hops in the 2006 version, so so good, nice sweet intial taste fades into a dry, but smooth finish, raisins, caramel, and chocalate are all evident in its taste
Could drink this all day, but alcohol content would catch up to me, ran out of this pretty quickly in the brewery though, so I would have had to get another glass early if I wanted to
Sierra Nevada should do something like this with Bigfoot, it would probably really good because that is also a great vintage barleywine
