The best homebrew shop in the area. Ingredients are quality and fresh. Service is helpful, informative and polite. The selection of equipment is also pretty solid for a small shop. My only gripe is that they do not stock White Labs yeast. The Wyeast they carry is always very recent and the selection is great, but on the occasion I need a WL strain, it requires me to make an extra stop.

If Ed doesn't have it, or can't get it...you don't need it.

Helpful owner, Ed, and staff. Pretty good selection of the essentials for a home brewer. I like to buy from them and support a local business.

this is easily the best store in the area. reasonable prices, very good customer service, and nice selection of ingredients.. The folks there generally can answer any questions. there are two refrigerators, one for yeast, and one for hops. usually a good selection of both yeast and hops that never seem old. I recently brought a friend there to buy ingredients for his Czech Pils and he was quite impressed will the selection and care they seemed to take with there yeast, he said it was the freshest supply of yeast he has ever seen, even bought extra Pacman yeast for future batches! Overall I have never had a bad experience here and have always been treated with respect regardless of how ridiculous my questions sometimes are.

This place has a lot to do with why I really got involved in homebrewing.
A very simply laid out store with a wide selection of wine an beer making ingredients, equipment, and literature.
Ed Wren and his staff are incredibly helpful and knowledgable. I believe that they are responsible for the large base of homebrewers in the area.
I have much gratitude for how helpful and encouraging Ed and the people at his store were and still are.
A rare honest business man, and an individual who is deeply committed to encouraging the craft.

I came here for the first time back in April of 2007 at the recommendation of Marc Rubenstein, head brewer and co-owner of Middle Ages Brewing. This is the one and only homebrew shop that I have frequented since then so I don't have much to compare it to, but at the same time I have had no need to look elsewhere. The owner is friendly and very helpful, even providing idiot-proof instructions for brewing your first batch of beer. This store has a good selection of ingredients and equipment, and they are always able to make suggested substitutions in the rare event that they don't have what you're looking for. Several homebrewing books are also available and they also provide several of their own recipes. Used and new soda kegs for those looking to keg their beer, and they carry winemaking equipment as well.

EJ Wren is my homebrew shop of choice, and it has pretty much everything you might need to make a complete brew. It's a small shop, but EJ has pretty much all the elements you might need for any main type of brew. He has lots of brewing books, free recipes and equipment. The prices are reasonable (about $35-50 depending on style, for a full brew). It's a very well-regarded homebrew shop. EJ himself will also help you locate any ingredients you might need, as well as suggest which elements you would need for any given batch. It's a very good place to start homebrewing.

Came in to get a starter kit and was very impressed. The store doesn't look like a hell of a lot, but they know their stuff and were very helpful.
Got the deluxe kit with an all-extract kit, 20 quart pot and a couple cases of bottles for $180 after NY tax. While this is more expensive than some of the online stores I've looked at, the in-store help was invaluable.
Kit came with plastic buckets, everything I need including an auto-siphon and no-rinse cleanser. I'm pretty happy with, let's just hope I dont screw up my first batch.
If you're in central NY and need supplies, I'd recommend these guys. Very helpful, even said they can help prepare malts if and when I get to that.

Stopped in because I like to visit towns and see their homebrew shops. Very clean setup, everything is out for display. A lot of room to move around and see everything. The service is a little slow, there was only 1 other person in the store and it took the guy 20 minutes to ring the other person up and they were not even talking. The prices were good nothing to expensive or over priced. The website now has free shipping on all orders over 50 dollars.
Cheers
