Appearance: Clear deep amber color with a small fast-dissipating white head, little carbonation. There was a small amount of sediment in the bottom of the bottle.

Aroma: Grassy with some caramel malt notes, mild hops.

Taste: Begins with caramel malts and a grassy note, some herbal hops appear midway through the taste. The finish is dry and slightly astringent with husk and some mild bitterness.

Mouth feel: Touch of carbonation on the tongue, smooth and full taste.

Drinkability/notes: A bit different for its style, very easy to drink.

Previously known as “Blond Bull” this brew has an ox on the front of the label with painted clouds and cacti and also has a humorous little story on the back about a particularly smart bull and wagon trains from the 1800s. It pours a deep golden amber color with a very light head that quickly fades completely away. The aroma is of sweet malts and is very reminiscent of wet hay. It has a creamy, malty taste with a faint hop bitterness in the aftertaste and goes down very easily. The bottle proclaims that it is “guaranteed to taste best on the Texas open range at sundown—with dinner awaitin’ over the fire!” I drank it indoors and at night, but still enjoyed it! And at $2.29 for a 1 pint bottle, it’s reasonably priced.
