Appearance: Delivered to the table a very dark brown body with a very thin, beige head.

Smell: A noted robust espresso note atop a nutty-scented, roasty mix of malts with a sliver of baker's chocolate.

Taste: Smooth espresso with ground up toasty bread crusts and a light, ineffectual chocolate accent. Low sweetness overall. Mildly leafy hops, low bitterness. Dry, roasty (both from the malts and espresso) finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Lightly carbonated.

Overall: Pretty good!

Cask pour at the brewpub into a pint glass

A: Pours with two fingers of very dense head that really never recedes - very nice.

S: Very nice. Strong, nutty coffee aroma with some roasted malts and caramel.

T: Strong smooth coffee flavor with a lot of nutty flavor, roasted malts, with caramel sweetness to balance. The flavors are very balanced with nothing overpowering another flavor, something uncommon for beers with coffee.

M: Fairly thick with perfect cask carbonation. "Uncarbonated" cask beer is not a problem here. It just allows all the flavors to cone out and makes the beer very smooth.

O: I love this beer. Perfectly balanced, it will not obliterate your taste buds, but will certainly stimulate. Crawford, please put this on cask again.
