Island Beauty is Black Beauty aged in rum barrels. Tough to go wrong with a base beer that good...
Pour is extremely dark mahogany, almost black really, with some ruby hints around the edges. Has a thick creamy beige head that recedes to a thin collar and swirl of bubbles on the top.
Aroma definitely has rum with some light spiciness and sweet booze up front. The dark fruits of the underlying beer are present but subtle. Candi sugar, chocolate and rye behind the rum as well
Taste has an immediate rum kick, booze-soaked raisins and overripe lighter fruits. There is a nice fruity ester present with candi sugar in the background. Finish is rum and spices with a heavy sweetness.
Mouthfeel is unbelievable, just like the original, smoother than just about any dubbel/Belgian dark out there.
Well, this had a lot to live up to as Black Beauty is fantastic and French Beauty (BB aged on French oak) is one of the best beers I've ever tasted. This is right up there with those two, though not as good as French Beauty in my book. Whatever, it's a great beer.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
