I finally got the chance to go to JW Dover. I've passed this place so many times that I never thought that this was a homebrewing store/winery and soon to be Black Box Brewing. I think the reason for not noticing it was a homebrewing store/winery/brewery is that there is no big sign (that I noticed) along Detroit saying what this business does. You can easily pass this place up. I came up Detroit via Clague, but I think it's next to some kind grocery store. I'm not too sure about that, but it's across from a new car dealership and not too far from some of Westlake's upscale restaurants, Le Bistro Du Beaujolais and Viva Barcelona. The trick to finding this place is look for a big wood building that resembles a French winery on the corner of Detroit and Allen Drive. That should help.

When you first walk in through their two doors, you're going to come to a big dry erase board that mentions some of the wine they have for sale that day. Your also going to notice a bunch of newspaper clippings about local breweries and their brewers surrounding the dry erase board. The wall is just filled with these newspaper clippings. After your done reading you're going to notice stairs to the right and the left. The stairs to the right are the stairs to nowhere because they lead into a wall with a picture hanging on it. You will take the picture down and grab the sledgehammer and hard hat from the wall behind you and knock that wall down because that's the only entrance to the homebrew store/winery. You will then be greeted...No No I forgot that you will take the stairs to left when you first walked in. You will descend the stairs with posters of breweries on your left. When you reach the bottom there will be another door that will lead you into a big room with some wine for sale on the far left wall, shelves of homebrewing/wine making supplies and a small refrigerator next to the counter with bags of hops (maybe yeast) for sale. If you go straight ahead through the archway you're going to be in their tasting room that has a few tables, a small bar, a big screen TV, and another room that's for their Dart league and live music. I just loved decorations they used. Their decorations are old beer bottles, a few beer related neon signs, and old vintage tin brewery signs.

The service here is of great. When I walked in and when I was walking around they asked me if I had any questions about anything. Now, I didn't have any homebrewing/wine making questions, but I'm certain that they would know what they're talking about because some of their employees are part of their Cellar Rats. Cellar Rats is a group of people who meet at JW on a regular basis to share wine/beer recipes.

I don't know homebrewing supplies, but they had everything there that you need for your homebrewing. They had bags of hops, bags of malt, malt extract, yeast (maybe), spices, kettles, and even homebrewing kits.

The problems I had was that I thought $.50 was a bit high on the samples of wine and some of the food they had was pricey too, but that's a very minor problem. I really enjoyed my trip here even though I don't homebrew. I will be coming here many more times in the near future. Next time I won't pass JW up.
