Hazed but still quite transparent, a cinnamony brown with mimosa highlights and a fair white head. There is a vague "ginger" aroma that actually smells more like lemongrass, plus a kiwi fruitiness and a stale bread aroma. Fruity grape, orange, and lime interplay with a dull edge of ginger and mild hops; the only point at which the ginger is particularly forward is at the finish, where it surges a bit to provide just a tickle of heat - but Sainsbury's Diet Ginger Beer is way more gingery. On the palate it is light and zippy, but not quite as dry as it ought to be. If this weren't called an "explosion" I might be far more impressed with it, but even disregarding the disappointingly low level of ginger, this ale is not very good or interesting.
