Pours a amber/brown with a small beige head..but leaves spectacular lace!
Aroma is of toasty and roasted caramel malts..toffee..light fudge.
Taste similar but has some small amount of grassy hop but this is all about the tasty chewy malts and it has those aplenty.
Mouth feel is very good medium low carbonation ..but finishes with a small ashy drieness that stops it becoming malty cloying.
Overall a very good dopplebock from an all but forgotten brewery here in Oregon.

This review is for the "bourbon - barreled atlas" (7.8%) which isn't yet on BA. Very nice, but I noticed little, if any bourbon in the nose or mouth. Much darker in color than the regular dobblebock, though.

On tap at the brewpub in McMinnville the other day.

The beer pours a fairly dark brown color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is likewise attractive in this beer, showcasing considerable chocolate, vanilla, molasses and some light maraschino cherry. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely, and while the beer is moderately sweet, there's just enough hoppy bitterness in the flavor profile to counterand balance that sweetness. Mouthfeel was medium bodied at most, and I thought the beer finished well (often a problem with some of the domestic dopples I've tried). Drinkability is quite good, with the alcohol well integrated into the flavor profile.

Very nice effort from the folks at Golden Valley.
