perhaps my favorite of the beers we drank here on our visit, a bit old school yeah, somewhat malty and bitter both, and this is what ipa used to taste like, maybe the kind of ipa that has now been forgotten by time, even though its a little more blonde than they were way back when, this felt like a relic, but had a nostalgia factor for me, along with some of their others, and i think the balance and freshness here are both endearing, nice recipe and execution too, this felt a little more buttoned up than others. the hop profile makes it, bitter most of the way but with a lot of wrinkles, its weedy and dank and sticky icky in the center, more of that as it warms, but also has notes of tangerine, mowed grass, and fresh flowers, with the malt it flashes orange blossom honey, fresh baked crumbly biscuit, and just a light toffee thing too. the structure is good, fuller than its color gives away, its bubbly enough, and i love the linger and the recall. robust on the bitter side but i miss beer like this. golden valley is a cool place, a bit of a time capsule, including on the beer side, but awesome food, good vibes, solid service, a great patio, and a place i will be back to!

Received as a gift from an Oregonian visitor. Totally undistinguished IPA. Smelled promising, but was thin in feel and bland in flavor. Undated bottle claims 80 IBU and 7.2% ABV. Blah.

Astringent, bitter, malty. Nothing special here. Label says 85 IBU and 6.8% abv. with Cascade and Columbus.

Bottle given to me as a gift.
poured into New Belgium snifter
smell and appearance were spot on. had been a little while since I had an IPA and this one looked and smelled like a winner. copper color, two finger head that left a little lacing on the glass.
smelled nice and hoppy, with a little citrus and pine. so far so good!
taste fell off the cliff. so thin, so little hops. what a disappointment. in a land full of west coast IPAs that knock it out of the park, this one just doesnt measure up

Hazy amber with one finger of off white head. Head gives up quite soon but leaves a dense curtain of fine bubble lacing.
Smell is floral hops with a light dose of fresh biscuit dough.
Taste is earthy fruity (pink grapefruit) bitter hops up front with plenty of bready rich malts. Quite malty for an IPA.
Mouthfeel is quite full bodied and the carbonation is just enough.
Overall a rich malty fresh hop American IPA.
FYI: Label says 65 IBU, website 80.
label says 5.9 abv, website says 6.5%.
Also says fresh Nugget and Cascade hops from Mission Bottom area North of Salem, Oregon.
Update: 09/13/2014. Label now says 85 IBU and 6.8% abv. Must be a work in progress. Hops are listed as Cascade and Columbus.
