the nose suggests a sweeter beer than it is. malty, bready, hints of raisins but never too sweet, end in bitterness. a bit like 2/3 hell/pale/and 1/3 dunkel, nice enough

Pours a darker amber color with a huge, spongy eggshell colored head.
Smells of toffee covered straw, inheriting a coumarin warmth, as well as a rustic grain spiciness.
Drinks soft, revealing a light bodied, well balanced beer with a late, yet fitting carbonation burst.
Tastes of whole grain bread, soft toffee and bakers chocolate, together with a balancing, spicy and modest dryness. This relies a bit more on the malts then, without turning too sweet in any way, while maintaining its overall rustic, bready appearance, together with a truly soft mouthfeel. Finishes with a note of licorice, gently coated by whole grain bread crust and a leafy, supportive dry note, creating a longer lasting bitteress at the front of the tongue.
This is great. Due to its incredible balance and soft mouthfeel this feels pleasing from start to finish. Its malt forward flavor profile, startling enough, does not appear malty in a classical sense of inheriting mainly sweet flavors, but producing a fantastic rustic complexity instead.

Pours a slightly cloudy, deep amber coloration with a large, frothy head, visible coloration and wispy threads of yeast snaking downwards. Smells of bready, grainy, slightly toasted malt and lighter accents of earthy, herbal hops. Taste follows the nose, with a good balance of bready, grainy, slightly toasted malt and earthy, herbal hops, with hints of grass and a certain nuttiness also coming through. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some bready malt and herbal hops lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This initially feels a little dominated by the bready and slightly sweet'ish malt, but this is balanced very nicely by somewhat herbal and bitter hops coming through in the finish. So while the malts are clearly standing out a little more here, there still is a nice, balancing hoppiness to this. All in all, a rather mild, easy-drinking, but still rather flavourful, beer that is quite enjoyable.

Draft, special Püttner Zoigl glass.
It’s a beautiful coppery auburn color, rustic and rich that matches my quaint, rustic Bavarian surroundings. The tawny head really is quite long lasting, like I imagine the barn I’m looking at is.
A little toasty, Vienna, Bock-like, and definitely yeasty. There is a light earthy hop aroma.
I’m bitten my some delicious herbal hops and then swept away by the rich toasted malts and yeast. Whole grain crackers, toasted grain, spicy noble hop character.
Lager is as lager does. It’s medium bodied, very carbonated, and nicely balanced.
Where has Zoigl been all my life? This is a lager. This is a lager with some flavor, some heart.

This is not the Zoigl I have been getting use to lately. This one is a bit darker but not as dark as most dunkels. It is a dark cloudy bronze. The head and lace are almost tan but not quite what I would call off white. It has nice herbal and yeast aroma. The flavor is nice and refreshing a bit grassy and yeast spicy. The boy is medium and has a bit of bite.
