Appearance is dark chestnut with a reddish hue. It’s not quite opaque as you might expect from a stout, but transparent especially near the edges of the glass. A generous tan head recedes slowly and leaves streaky lacing. The aroma is dark roasts and a bit of chocolate. The taste has a hint of sweetness, dark chocolate, and dark roasted malt. Mouthfeel is a bit thinner than most imperial stouts but still smooth and slightly creamy.

32oz grunt filled at the South Hill Growler Guys for $6 or so.
Poured into an Iron Goat snifter, this was a dark brown color that took on a very slightly lighter hue when held up to light. Modest, tan head that dropped fairly quickly but never quite disappeared. Spotty, streaky lace.
Roasty, chocolatey and a little bit boozy in the nose. Apparently this was brewed with Dominican cocoa nibs and "a generous amount of Chocolate Malt" (per Orlison) . It's sweet, but not cloyingly sweet, like some chocolate stouts I have known. I swear I can barely detect a faint whiff of what seems like cinnamon.
Coffee and dark cocoa flavors lead the charge, with a modest, slightly bitter spiciness in the background.
Body's a little light for a big stout. Mouthfeel has a coating, velvety texture.
As dessert stouts go, this isn't on that particular Mt. Rushmore, but it's not bad. Another local stout that hits the spot. It's not a bad problem to have.
