.33cl bottle poured into an An Brainblasta goblet in Belfort, France. Bottle acquired in Hauptbahnhof, Zürich, Switzerland. Reviewed live. Bottle label shows 9% ABV. A little mini-booklet hangs from the bottleneck displaying info about the brewery in Swerman (Swiss-German).
A: Tan colour head, half a finger, of poor retention and good thickness, and slight cream. Outright solid black colour. Appealing.
Sm: Vanilla, cream, rich heavy brilliant chocolate, toffee, but no roast or coffee. The chocolate is damned overpowering, and I love it.
T: Sweet chocolate bejaysus, lads. Mother Mary of fuck that's delicious. Cacao powder, toffee, cream, and vanilla are layered in a complex wonderful fashion building to the chocolate climax, with a cream and off-toffee finish. Very rich. Caramelized malt aids the barley foundation, which in fairness is probably slightly roasted, but that aspect doesn't come through. Did I mention it was chocolatey? Very well built for the style, and quite balanced as well. Bravo.
Mf: Some problems emerge here. It's smooth and wet, but awkwardly thick to support the hops. Luckily, it isn't syrupy - just thick. Some troublesome coarseness is present way too early; it enters before the midpoint, stalling the flavours from fully expressing on the palate. Overall, it's mostly complementary of the flavour.
Dr: The 9% does come through a bit too much, to its detriment. Notably, this chocolate is legit cacao dark chocolate, not that artificial syrupy crap in other beers. A unique chocolate expression makes this beer brilliant. Very drinkable and wonderful. Every stout lover needs to give this a try. It's nothing short of brilliant. Not as affordable as I'd like.

75cl bottle poured into glass
Date on bottle: 26/09/2010
A: Very dark, almost jet black. No head.
S: Chocolate all the way! Cocoa powder? A very distinct chocolate aroma in any case.
T: Yep, follows the aroma. Definite chocolate and cocoa flavours.
M: A bit thin for a stout, sadly. Not too bad, though.
D: Really nice and easy to drink. A bit too expensive, though - it's a Swiss beer bought in Zurich and there were some quality imported beers that were cheaper.
