Gus is a hero for the area. Best and almost only place to find any craft brews around. Great growler section for local brews like Good People and Straight to Ale. Both Alabama breweries. Alabama sucks on beer choices. Out of what is available this place is the best in the area. The best thing is how knowledgeable and friendly and helpful Gus is. He will try to get whatever you are looking for if possible. Very reasonable prices. This place gets lots of points for customer service, being the only place around for such a variety of choices, and all the effort that goes into it.

I wish there were a rating higher than 5 for service. Gus is one of the most helpful people when it comes to beer (and of course wine) education that I have ever seen. As some have already mentioned, after legislation was passed to allow a greater variety of gourmet beers in Alabama, Gus began to sell the best variety I have seen in this area.
Definitely the best place in Auburn to buy beer. Best selection anywhere around unless you go to Columbus. Everything is in date, and he gets regular shipments in. Again, if you don't know what you want, Gus can help. He's an all around good guy, and is very knowledgeable of his profession. The prices are good. Some of the more premium beers can get a little pricier, but still well within reason.
Overall, Gus's is highly recommended. If not for the sheer selection, you should definitely go for the service!

Stopped by here on my way back from Montgomery.
Quality is good. All beer is in the back of the store and much of it is in coolers.
Service is very good. Gus (at least I assume it was him) was there to greet me when I walked in and we spoke a bit about his selection and how it's improved thanks to FtH. As he runs the store, he obviously knew what he had and did not have and what he could get.
Selection was good. I saw a decent bottle selection but the main thing I was happiest about was the growler station with Good People, Rogue, and Tommyknocker offerings all available.
Value is good. I didn't see anything that seemed overly expensive.
Overall this place is definitely worth a stop if you're on I-85. Make sure to ask about the growlers available as I may not have noticed if Gus hadn't mentioned it.

Even before the passage of HB-373 that removed some of the limits on the beers available in Alabama, Gus had one of the best selections of otherwise unavailable beers in the area. With the passage of the bill, he has gone even further in expanding his selection.
He does a much better job than most in describing beers - for both newbies and those nearer to beer aficionados. He is very eager to help in selecting from among the new brands and styles available.
The prices are about what should be expected, and are great considering that he is among the first, if not the first, to offer high-gravity brews around East Central Alabama.

Gus is heroically bringing East-Central-Alabamians into the post-HB373 world of gourmet beer. Up until recently, most of the top 100 beers in the world were illegal here in Alabama, thanks to prohibitionist era beer laws. Now that the hops have been freed, however, Gus is working hard to supply some of the best brews in the world to the Plains, in bottles and on draft. You can even bring in your own clean growler for a fill-up. And on top of that, the customer service is impeccable. If you are a beer (or wine) aficionado, "Fine Wine and Beer By Gus" is the place to shop.
