1/2 pint at 'spoons during a beer fest'. Cask. Amber with a thin but dense head.
A bouquet of toffee malt with spice.
The sweet toffee continues into the taste but is spoilt by a somewhat harsh burnt caramel to finish.
Conditioning was good but even this 1/2 pint was difficult to finish due to the cloying sweetness.

On cask at the London airport.

Khaki head. Amber color.

Strong flavor. Lots of Belgian notes. Bananas, cloves, caramel, toffee, figs.

Medium to full bodied. Cask feel. Creamy.

Strong flavor. Hard to drink a lot of this one. Fun to try.

From notes I discovered a month later, having thought I had lost them as I left my last Wetherspoons of their autumn real ale festival.

A: copper colour; standard 'spoons head

S: smells like my wife's homemade yoghurt which is pleasant but makes me rather wary

T: initially sweet and yoghurty, then white sugar, then minty bitterness, with a return to the white sugar in the finish.

1/2 pint at a 'spoons

Appearance - clear as a bell, red/amber with a small well formed head

Smell- sticky toffee pudding, touch of floral hops but very distant. Some mixed spice.

Tastes - Sticky toffee pudding. Did I mention the sticky toffee pudding? Because that's pretty much all there is in terms of flavour, which might be a problem but there is enough bittering to stop it being cloying or finishing too sweet. Alcohol is there but in the background.

Mouthfeel - Thick and a bit syrupy. Not overpowering though, at least not in this measure. Typical cask carbonation, fits fine.

Overall - Worth it to point out that Green King can actually brew a decent beer. It's a bit one dimensional, the abbots confession is that he likes sticky toffee pudding, but it's a good pudding, one that I'd recommend.

This is the official blurb:

This new, potent brew, brewed exclusively for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival, is rich and warming, with floral notes supplied by late hopping, leading to a full flavour, completed by a superb balance of bitter and sweet notes in the finish.

Hops used: Challenger, First Gold, Fuggles, Pilgrim.

Two third of a pint glass: hand-pulled on 16th Oct 2013 in the Wellington Wetherspoon's.

I really enjoyed this.

Ruby/dark red in colour, creamy head.

Sweet maltiness throughout, molasses rule both the nose and taste, toffee apple sort of flavours and smell. The alcohol is very evident, but I liked the boozy feel it gave to brew.

Great value for such a strong beer: pity I was on a mission, or I'd have had more and been poorly in the morning.
