Bottled, hopefully the darkness of the beer will protect it from the clear glass
Pours a jet black body but the tan head stays on the side of the glass but not much elsewhere
Aroma of dandelion and burdock, so dark sugars against some lime, just very subdued, nose well into glass
there is a hint of black ipa but what I get more is a best bitter with added caramel to make a sweeter darker beer
which makes me nostalgic and enjoy drinking but it aint no black ipa

A 500ml clear glass bottle with a BB of Sept 2018. Purchased a little while back from Morrisons as part of their beer festival. The label mentions that this is hopped with Citra and Simcoe.
A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. A very dark brown colour that appears virtually black in the glass. Produces a large head of creamy tan foam that lasts for a while before slowly reducing to a persistent surface layer. Slight lacing.
S: Aroma of buttery diacetyl that envelops the senses, accompanied by hints of pine, subtle resinous hops, mild roasted malt and vague ale yeast. Not brilliant.
T: Tastes of moderately resinous hops with notes of pine, weed, citrus peel, roasted grain, dark malt, stewed hops and mild ale yeast. A touch of diacetyl in the background. Faintly sweet, with a restrained bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and a thin, watery body for the style. Lightly astringent. Aftertaste of bitter resinous hops, pine, roasted malt and faint ale yeast.
O: So-so; while it's good to see GK expanding their range, this is a relatively poor stab at a black IPA. It looks pretty good, but everything goes downhill from there. The aroma is especially marred by diacetyl, which is intrusive and drowns out the beer's character. The flavour is better with decent hop and malt presence, but comes across a tad underpowered. Average body - could be thicker. Drinkable but needs work; especially proper maturation before bottling. No need to hunt it down.
