Suffolk Pale Ale rediscovers the Chevallier malt whose story begins around 1820 in rural Suffolk. Following its near extinction in the 20th century, it was resurrected and paired with Saaz and Strisselspat hops, to create this refreshing crisp and flavoursome pale ale.
Available on cask and limited edition & bottle conditioned. Part of Chevallier series.

1 imperial pint (568ml) bottle. Nicely embossed ‘1799’. Rich copper colour, opaque (bottle conditioned), with several streams of bubbles. Massive, fluffy, white head and lots of lacing. Smells faintly of lime but this style often has a light or indistinct aroma. Taste is delicate, slightly sweet, pale malt, light caramel, citrus fruits, lime again. It's enticing and subtle. Mouthfeel is super smooth with a richness on the tongue (but not chewy) and soft bitterness. There’s very light carbonation. The aftertaste is long and luxurious. This is a superb EPA for the summer. Very inventive (I’d never heard of either chevallier malt or strisselspat hops). Well done Greene King. More of this please!

L- It says it bottle-conditioned and I've rested it, but there is almost no sediment in the bottle. Pours crystal clear, deep amber with a 5mm fine just off-white head that's holding well.
S- Quite indistinct to me, but then my sense of smell is never A1 this time of year. [So alas I can honestly only rate this here as 2.5, being neutral, as there is nothing negative I note either].
T- Very distinct, in contrast! I sense some apple, and some broad but gentle aromatic spices, and even briefly slightly peppery in the finish. It has a freshly-brewed and quite fresh sense to it's flavour.
F- Very good carbonation the mouth, and the head is also still fully intact. It's a lovely beer, quite intricate and yet with good balance. Refreshing, this would be versatile, and readily sessionable.
O- What a lovely find this is. Quite distinct, very sessionable, with zero.00 wrong here.
Described as a 'Limited Edition' and this week is the first time I've seen it; so hard to predict how long it will be around.
I've scrutinised the bottle all over, but can find no sign of a BB date. Elegant old-school 568ml brown pint bottle. Bought from a Waitrose in London priced at £2. Good value for a beer like this.
