Vintage Pale Ale rediscovers the Chevallier malt whose story begins around 1820 in rural Suffolk. Following its near extinction in the 20th century, it was resurrected and paired with classic English hops to create this rich, complex and full-bodied vintage fine ale.

Imperial pint bottle with old school embossing. Says it's bottle conditioned but zero sediment. Consequently, pours bright, amber colour. Some bubbles but not many. Massive, three-finger, long-lasting, cream-coloured head with lots of lacing. Nose is malty and nutty. Rich, sweet, slightly spicy, peanut & caramel flavours plus a hint of woodsmoke and some alcohol heat. Full-bodied, extra smooth mouthfeel. Bitterness is low. This is a terrific vintage ale from Greene King. Cannot believe this is only £2 a pint. Will be stocking up tomorrow before it disappears.

Bottle Conditioned. There is sediment at the base of bottle, but not as heavy as some other bottles I've recently had. Still, I'm glad I rested it for 2-3 days before drinking.
L- Beautiful, dark but bright chestnut. Pours with fine pale tan head.
S- Malts, meaty middle with some dark fruit notes.
T- Wow, stewed fruits, rich deep malts, a decent alco-kick for 6.5%, and finishes with just a little dry tang coming in.
F- Beautiful, zero out of place. Carbonation is good in the mouth. It's what I'd consider a classic slow-sipping Winter Warmer, though I'd happily drink this year-round.
O- Simply lovely, if only beers with this character and finesse were more commonly available.
BB: 'See neck' it says, but as with the other yesterday from this Chevallier Series I cannot locate one.
A very grand/elegantly lablled and bottled 568ml. Bought this week from Waitrose, London for £2: Deal!
