Having incredibly low expectations from Greene King sometimes means you're pleasantly surprised. Designed to be a London Pride-style bitter for the people who ask for it when they come into a pub that's not a Fuller's, this is a clear dark red, with a foamy buff head. Slightly vinegary on the nose, which I'm going to assume is just the cask, on the tongue it's a coppery malt with toffee and grape. Very sweet on the finish, and at an advertised 4.1% the mouthfeel is miles better than the sub-3.5% swill that GK has been cooking up recently.

Cask: Poured a clear light brown color ale with a small foamy head. Aroma of caramel and nutty flavors. Taste is a mix of caramel malt flavors with some dry floral hops notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Well made bitter that drinks quite well.

Cask at The Old Explorer (a GK pub), London, under its assumed alias London Glory. Beautiful mahogany colour, coarse small off-white head. No aroma detectable. Thin mouthfeel. Dry flavour, moderate hops. Drinkable, but not exciting. You’d think GK should be able to come up with something better than this.

On hand pump cask pour
Dark copper color, clear, thick white head. Mild malt and dark fruit aroma, similar flavor, we'll balanced, not really bitter or sweet. Medium bodied, soft carbonation

Finally a brown ale. Not so nutty. Served warm at Gloucester Arms.
