This is by far, of their beer's I've tried, the best beer from the Ruddy Duck. Good and clean and easy drinking and enjoyable all around.

It's a very light golden, super clear beer. Smells very mild, but nice and malty and bready. Tastes like a helles lager should, clean and crisp. Feel is excellent for the style, very smooth and light and clean. Overall this is a stellar brew from my hometown brewers.

Poured from a Growler (available at brewpub) into a pokal. Beer is a hazy dark straw-gold topped with a white two-finger head that quickly falls to a filmy layer on the top surface. Light lacing was left down the glass.

Aroma is a clean, crisp, citrus-y, with clear sweet malts and bright hops. Almost weizen-y.

Flavor is a well-balanced blend of malt sweetness and noble hop bitterness, very crisp, nice green-apple-ish tartness and spice on the finish, slightly dry, like a good pils with a bit more girth. Very refreshing- this would be a very nice beer on a hot summer day, and a good beer to pair with food.

Mouthfeel is medium light, with moderate carbonation. Fitting for the style and the flavor profile.

Helles is a style I'd like to see more breweries exploring, and this is a fine example Overall, its quite an impressive, a beer I could find myself drinking on many occasions. Its great with food, and very refreshing and appealing in its own right.

On tap at the Ruddy Duck into a standard pint glass.

A - hazy, cloudy light yellow with virtually no head.

S - lemons, citrus, spices and maybe slight wheat aroma. Not strong in the nose but for the style, enjoyable.

T - lemon flavor comes thru along with the bready base. Most of the taste is up front and dissipates quickly. A slight citrus like aftertaste lingers but not long. Pretty mild, both to my taste and to the style.

M - very light. Easily drinkable and virtually no alcohol presence.

O - for the style, I would say it is average. Not a huge fan of the Helles style but wanted to review this local every-day offering. For my tastes, it just doesn't have the chops to hold my interest. A decent Summer brew, but would benefit from more body and taste.

The last 2oz sample I had at Ruddy Duck.

A: The color is dark straw, and because of the serving size, there wasn't much head. Considering that, the lacing was good, though.

S: Has a bit of tangy malt, but it also features a bit of hefeweizen-esque sweetness as well. I like it!

T: The taste doesn't differ much from the smell. The maltiness and tangy hop finish were there, like I would expect, but it also features a hint of banana and cloves in the middle. Almost like a helles/hefeweizen hybrid, and it was pretty impressive, too.

M: This was nicely smooth, and well carbonated. Very refreshing.

O: Truth be told, I slightly regret not ordering a pint of this. It wasn't a pure helles, but I can tell you, I would jump all over this one the next time I go to Ruddy Duck.

A - A muddy gold color with a bit of stick on the sides that left some chunk lacing.

S - Smelled mostly of sweet caramel malts, with a bit of bubble gum. It has an interesting aroma profile for a helles, particulary the bubble gum that comes out there.

T - Taste delivers on the smell. The bubble gum is definately there, along with a bit of sweet honey and a corn backbone. The fiance' liked this one quite a bit, although granted, she is not a beer person. The guy next to me recommended it as the best one as well, so I'm thinking this is a great one for the masses.

M - A bit flat, watery. Medium boded.

D - Very easily drinkable, and I think it is one that they can sell a good amount of to those who aren't huge into craft. An interesting take on the style.
