On-tap at SBBC
The beer is amber in color with a dense off-white head. Smells...off. I get some olive brine, a light nuttiness, and a decent malt sweetness. Toffee, bread, and a light toasted quality. Some floral hops, but sort of watery overall. The flavor is bland and watery. Toasted bread, toffee, and light caramel. A mild olive oil note, too. Very mild hop flavor and minimal bitterness.

Served on-draught into a pilsner glass at Santa Barbara brewing. Paired with pizza. Reviewed from notes.
A: No real head at all. It's possible it disappeared from the pour to my table. Colour is a dark caramel-ruby.
Sm: Caramel, toasted malt, and maybe light citrus ester hops. a mild strength aroma.
T: Caramel, a toasted malt backbone, and that's about it. Very simple and strangely built for a red ale. Not at all balanced. Pretty meh. There's no clear focus or direction. I support experimentation, but this is a failure.
Mf: Smooth and wet. Too silky smooth; a red ale ought to be more coarse - especially when there's toasted malt involved.
Dr: Drinkable but of low quality. Simple and uninspired; perhaps their worst offering.

my first trip to the brewery.
Appearance- nice vivid red/auburn, clear(no haze)
Aroma- light sweet malt notes, bit of roasted nut/ seed. some spice characters I can't detect.
Taste- sweet, mildly hopped, plain finish. Like a Killian's red.
a Decent Red.

My dad and I had this one as a sampler and that was enough for us. Poured a red color iof course but resembled the color of tomato juice bt watered down, no head, not impressed. Nose was weak;malt, hops and thats it. Taste had a slight zing to it, like metal like other have ointed out. Weak malts and hops leave this beer very boring and not very drnkable.

Draught at the brewpub. Clear red with a small head. Biscuit, metallic, and caramel aroma with some light hops in the background. Toasty flavor with some caramel malts, but a little light and boring on the hop side. Medium body with average carbonation. Pretty inoffensive, but uneventful as well.

Draft at brewery, 02/18/08.
Medium burnished copper color. Thin foam skin, no active carbonation.
No aroma from taster glass.
A little malt flavor up front, cardboard aftertaste.
Mouthfeel identical to water.
None of the characteristics I associate with a good beer, save that hint of malt at the beginning. Yuck.

Santa Barbara was my home for 8 years. SB Brew Co. was verrryyy good to me. The Red was a favorite of mine for quite some time and in fact was the first Beer on tap that I bought on my 21st. B-Day. Red is good taste and great as a socializing beer. (doesen't give you death breath)

This is a very tasty red from SB Brewing Co in Santa Barbara.
A - Deep ruby red body with a decent little head.
S - Scent is of light malts.
T - Smooth malty flavor. Not too sweet though. Just a nice mild taste.
M - For the style it's light to medium
D - Very drinkable, mainly cuz of smoothness.
