Bottle: good solid brown 330mL bottle, old country-style label.

Appearance: a good pour - heavy copper-amber with ruby highlights against the light. Two fingers of head pop up and settle to a solid half-finger with good retention and lacing. Looks good.

Aroma: it could have something to do with the old-school country label, but this one smells of the farmyard (in a good way!). Citric and orchard fruits with earth and herbs / spices. Lovely, whets the appetite.

Taste: follows the nose with those fruits and spices, with a good dose of tartness and body.

Aftertaste: the hop bitterness combines with the sour apple and sweet herbal spices. Lingers for a time too - very nice.

Mouth feel: moderate in body with a moderate carbonation also. Definitely more of a slow sipper than a throw-down, which is good since it isn't cheap.

Overall: a great English Strong Ale - there is little suggestion that it's so strong however, other than a slight warmth and the strength of flavour. An exceptional beer for AU$75 a case (2013). Well worth it.

Pours a reddish amber with a fluffy white head. Head retention isn't great and there is little to no lacing.

Slightly spicy, earthy hop aromas are present. I also get just a touch of fruitiness and a little bit of sweetness.

Quite sweet on the start, it progresses to a well rounded hop flavour with spicy notes. A slight hint of passionfruit hides in the background. Good lingering bitterness and maybe a slight hint of alcohol. Overall, it seems slightly weak in the flavour department but not overly so.

A bit lighter than one would want in this type of beer, the mouthfeel is almost a touch watery. Carbonation is average.

This is a fairly strong brew with decent flavours. I can't see myself drinking a heap of this but it is certainly nice enough.

I've categorised this as an American Strong Ale as the hop profile is slightly more American with the use of some new World Pacific Hops. it also lacks the significant amount of malt that would make this a bit more English.
