On draft during our lunch inside one of the Prague castle/palace restaurants. Food at the restaurant was pretty ho hum, and the accompanying beer was certainly no better.

The beer pours a yellow gold amber color with pretty unimpressive head retention and light lacing. On the nose, there's some light burnt toast and pepper, and that's about it. Not terrible, but nothing to get excited about either. The flavor profile is no better in this very light, innocuous beer. It's light and watery with a hint of bitterness on the finish. If you're a fan of bmc type AALs, this beer should be right up your alley. Mouthfeel is very light, with a clean, watery finish. Alcohol is virtually undetectable, which would normally enhance drinkability, but not in a beer this lackluster and insipid.

Some Brits we met later on at a beer bar were familiar with this beer and noted that the low abv. made this a nice selection if you were having a session or were out mowing the lawn. Probably true, but I'd rather give up beer altogether if this was the only option. Considering how many other absolutely outstanding beers are available in the Czech Republic and Prague, this is a pretty big disappointment.

500ml bottle from a Prague Mini-Market (39Czk):
Incredibly clear, golden amber with a thumb-sized, foamy white head & some lacing on the sides.

Some bitterness & some hops upfront with a hint of sweetness as well and some hay as well. There was some subtle, grassy hops but there was a slightly skunky aroma towards the end.

Grassy hops & some light, lager malts with some skunk. Some biscuit comes through alongside an earthy flavour that seemed to be the dominate taste of the beer. It was quite basic throughout and fairly light.

Well-carbonated with some bitterness and a fairly skunk feel to the beer. It was at least quite crisp but not particularly fresh & wasn't anything special sadly.

Definitely one of the poorer Czech beers I tried whilst in Prague and not one I really enjoyed. I'll not be going back to this one.

Bernard Světlé Pivo, ABV: 3.5%.
500 ml bottle, 15.90 SEK at ICA Kvantum.

A: A clear, golden-coloured liquid, with a white, airy head that leaves a nice ring of lacing.

S: Grassy and floral hops, sweet malt, and some citric notes - the smell you could get outside of a brewery. This is an absolute Czech.

T: Hay, summer flowers, wheat bread, butterscotch, some lemons, tangerines and a decent bitterness. Not huge, but simply elegant.

M: Smoo-ooth. Light carbonation. The body-size is small to medium.

O: Probably the best beer sold in Swedish supermarkets (max 3.5%). A light, elegant and tasteful Czech Pilsener that I'd say goes great with most traditional Central and Northern European food. I could drink a lot of this Bernard fellow.

A: Pours clear golden, a bit pale whit a soapy white head that slowly dissipates into decent lacings.

S: Lots of floral hops, citric notes and green apples. Sweet malt, neat and clean. Grassy.

T: Bready sweet malt, bitter as well as floral hops. Grassy and citric.

M: Long nice bitter aftertaste. Body is light to medium and carbonation is medium.

O: This was the swedish 3.5% edition. One of the best available in Sweden at that ABV.

This beer is clear, straw colored, with a white head that settles slowly and is leaving nearly no lacing.

The smell is in the hoppy corner, fresh grass, nettles but possibly some boiled vegetables as well.

Some wheat crackers initially, then fresh lime juice and a good bitter finish.

Medium carbonation, small bubbles, soft and refreshing but with a good dry finish.

This was a special 3.5% Swedish version, but actually a very good one.

3,5% version.

The smell is fresh and a bit hoppy with some buttery notes and a clean sweetness.

The colour is pale gold (12 EBC), the liquid clear. The two finger head is airy and white. It sinks slowly leaving some lacing and a thin ring.

The taste is a bit light. Everything one can ask from a Bohemian pilsner is there; the clean semi-sweet malt, the crisp bitterness, the buttery hints from the yeast. It is just a little lighter than in a classic 11°. There are also a hint of dough and a touch of cardboard in the background. The body is light to medium. The aftertaste got a pleasant mild bitterness and a fine buttery flavour.

The carbonation is medium strong, the bubbles small. The liquid is mid-smooth.

In Sweden, 3.5% beers are sold in grocery shops. This is one of the best beers at his strength I have come across so far.

A: The beer is crystal clear golden yellow in color and has a bright white head. There is a very slight amount of visible carbonation.
S: There is a light malty aroma in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste is also malty but the flavors aren't very strong.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a medium amount of carbonation.
D: The beer is very easy to drink and goes down smoothly. I could definitely have more than one of these at a time.
