Extreme measures go into making this popular beer. In fact the process used to make Flame is called 'extreme brewing'. Malt and hops are first subjected to extreme heat and then concentrated to retain the flavour. The process ends with the beer being 'crash cooled' to sub-zero temperatures resulting in a smoother, easy drinking, and full strength beer.
Flame is a moderately bittered, full-bodied lager style beer. The beer is nicely balanced and has light refreshing fruity notes in the flavour and aftertaste. Whether it's hot or cold outside, Flame is a favourite of those who appreciate a well-crafted unique beer.

While this might reek of wheat and give off a bread like and yeasty taste don’t let beer snobs throw you off this beer. Flame is an institution of a New Zealand beer, on a Friday night for one of the cheapest beers per standard drink flame really isn’t that bad 19 dollars for 12 beers at 1.4 drinks a bottle? Doesn’t sound too bad as long as you hold your nose closed.

OK. Been consuming these from a can for some months now. Not by choice, but because they are only $22.50/doz at 5.2% alc. I lost my job some months ago and have always been a craft beer drinker, trying anything on the market. Because then, I could afford it. Now, against my prior hatred of lagers, I am drinking them now because of the economic times. The first few cans were rather flaccid and putrid, I thought. But now, I enjoy this beer cold on a hot day, and I can drink a doz with no ill effects the next morning, so I can rate this beer as drinkable only, nothing special, nothing to rate.

The brewery says they apply a particular process of 'extreme brewing, by heating malt and hops at high temperatures and bringing them down swiftly.
Looks like a soda drink, big bubbles keep climbing the glass, apparently by CO2 injection.
Faint aroma of sugar and malt.
Light flavor of malt, sugar with a very mild bitterness, its hops give a freshness feel.
I have to give them that they were able to hide alcohol completely; it seemed that I was drinking a soda beverage.
Nevertheless, it is a very plain beer, making drinkability the highest priority. Even someone that does not like beer would find it acceptable (by their standards).

Clear bottle with faux-stylish graphics [to appeal to urban-chic hipsters who don't know anything about beer?]. Cheap lager straw-yellow with a film of guaze-white head. Sweetish corn chex with a metallic hop sting. Meh. Stale, cardboardy malts with nutrasweet and Karo. Barely-there hop bitterness. Spritzy (artificially) and watery. Pass.
