Definitely a malt-forward brew, but it's malt-centricity is well attenuated by hop-flavor so it finishes clean with a mild fruitiness rather than drawn-out and sweet. That being said, there is definitely not enough hopping to qualify this as an American Barleywine and is definitely firmly in the English style.

I wanted to try this one before I got an entire growler for a trade!
A - Deep amber color. Thick and slightly opaque. Big white head with good lacing.
S - Strong malt character with some dark fruits, caramel, and alcohol. Definitely a barleywine that is malt focused, malt forward, and malt delivering.
T - Initially it is complex with mostly the rich malt character holding true, then the alcohol along with some light fruity, herbal hops and then fruity yeast character. The booze is toned down due to the thick, malt sweetness but still adds some warmth. The complex fruit from the yeast is a nice flavor to help balance out the rich malt. There is only a slight hop bitterness but this beer is definitely malty sweet.
M - High mouth-feel with moderate to carbonation. It is somewhat heavy on the palate but isn't as rich as some leaving a lot of flavor but not too cloying.
Overall, a very good representation of the style. I really enjoyed what this beer had to off and it could do well in a BJCP competition. It has everything that you would want in a barleywine and if you haven't tried one you should start with this one. I prefer a hoppier taste but this is still very good.

A - Mostly translucent, but slight transparency, red brown, with a light tan head, some lacing.
S - Nose of caramel and alcohol warmth.
T - More caramel, subtle herbal notes, yeast and dough, a strong hint of spirits.
M - Slightly sticky, a bit thin, with enough carbonation to clean for the next drink.
O - Tasty, and balanced. A good solid barleywine.
