Fistful of Hops is our quarterly series of IPAs, each with the same malt base. We balance that base against a seasonal “fistful of hops” - each time a different combination. Our 2015 “green” release blends Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic, and Chinook hops to provide a white grape-like fruitiness balanced with flavors of citrus.

Dark orange pour 1 finger head. Has a sappy aroma to it. Pineapple and mango fruity smell. Taste, well really not a ton stands out here. As stupid as this is to say, this tastes like an IPA. More of that kind of sappy, syrupy type of quality. Also slight mango. This finishes drier and is easy to drink at a quicker pace. Overall, this is not as good as blue 2016. But is pretty tasty. Smells better than it tastes.

Foamy / frothy head that crumbles inward. Smell is more earth and grass, weedy from the mosaic than winey or citrus from the other hops. A bit more of the fruit - grapes, grapefruit - comes in the flavor, but still dominated by grassy, weedy notes. Similar bready / caramel moderate malt body as other Sun King IPAs. Solid.

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Whoops May 15 2015.
Very shampoo and sudsy looking white head. Has some retention but very thin, and flakes apart quite a bit as it settles to a big bubbled chunky collar. Body is a real nice mix of amber and red bronze colors, quite dark and somewhat see through. Interesting looking for a sort of amber IPA.
Aroma has some nice weedy and earthy hop bent going on. A little bit of toasty nut and bread crust goes along with it nicely. Pretty basic and solid no complaints here.
Palate is a little more of the same from before. A big of earthy green hop bent and mild bitterness at first. Finishes a little wet though with not much malt coating. A nice leafy earth bent though, with an almost minty tinge as well. The slightly lighter body though just makes for an almost chalky quality, with a bit of powdered burnt grain flavor.
It's an interesting hop profile but some other parts of the beers character aren't really that great, leaving me slightly disappointed but not too much.
