Velour Soccer Mom is a crisp Sour Ale that is aged in oak barrels with fresh raspberries and hibiscus. It has a light body with a pink hue and was fermented with Brettanomyces, a wild yeast that lends a delightfully tart character.

L: pours hazy pinkish red with streams of bibles rapidly rising to the top to join a lightly pink tinted white cap with poor retention. As it warms the effervescence calms down and it turns brilliant.
S: The aroma hits all the right points - it highlights raspberries and hibiscus and the sour comes through nicely. The oak is in the background with a trace of vanilla.
T: It is a prickly carbonated trip over the tongue with a raspberry, lemony tartness with hibiscus notes converging from the sides. There is just enough grain so that you know it is a beer. There is a slight butteryness in the finish and a hint of vanilla. Tannins from the oak help provide balance and give it a little more body and character. There is tartness from both the raspberries and from the wild yeasts and bacteria. The tartness has enough intensity to keep it out of the "alcopop" category but is not so mouth-puckering as to turn off the less adventurous. The acidity sharpens the raspberry and hibiscus flavors.
F: Velour Soccer Mom is light and effervescent, finishing, tart and flavorful. This very refreshing beer makes a great hot day drink.

Appearance - The color of the beer was a shade of magenta that was just not natural. Beautiful!
Smell - Raspberries dominate the nose.
Taste -My first impression is bubbly fresh raspberries. My attention then turns to wax candy, candy sugar, and a pleasant patch of sourness. The finish is somewhat dry.
Mouthfeel - The carbonation is fairly abrasive. Does it wash away the sweetness too fast?
Overall - This is a nice sour, but I am far from overwhelmed.

This is a very good sour beer by a brewery who continues to produce quality renditions of classic styles. It is crisp, dry and fruity. The color is very good, looks like cherry soda. But rest assured, it is not sweet! It has just enough brett yeast without being too funky. This would be an excellent beer to give someone as a first sour. I love sours, so, for me, this would be something I can drink regularly.

Pinkish hue. Aroma, funky, and red berries. Some peach. Taste, more tart than sour, some tannin, vanilla, cherry, berries. Overall, this was a pretty approachable sour. Thought it had a refreshing quality to it. Not a sour lover, but this was tasty enough.
