Picked up a fresh four pack of tall boys of this beer at a local store... I had no idea we started getting stuff from Sun King, but this is pretty exciting. I've heard of these guys before but I'm not quite sure what their claims-to-fame are. Being from Indiana? Three Floyds is, too, so maybe we'll get some of their stuff in MA too soon? Anyway, this is an apparently "Winter seasonal" IPA from SK. Let's crack right into it!
Pours an extremely clear golden/light-medium amber with a tight, intensely retentive head of white foam that builds up with moderate density. Great legs here! Intense carbonation activity, too, but that could just be from the fact that I rarely can actually see through an IPA these days. This is just about the opposite of an NEIPA in appearance, that's for sure!
The nose is... not really very interesting. Smells like a macro brewery's attempt at an IPA, for sure. Light grassy notes, herbal and slight dankness combining with low-effort citrus notes that just don't feel like they're "all there" to me. Light spicy spruce note as it acclimates to being in my glass. Some pilsner-like crackery malt aspects. Not sold. It's 2019... IPAs should smell punchy and intense regardless of if they taste that way or not. This doesn't do much at all.
More herbal hoppiness on the tongue with a slight aspect of lemon and water crackers. This definitely has a very milquetoast quality to it. Very light, non-aggressive grapefruit rind with a bit of mango if I really try to notice it. Light-medium bodied for a medium-strength single IPA, and the feel taken in stride with good carbonation and stickiness gives me a nice mouthfeel impression, for sure.. I like how this drinks, but there's almost nothing to it, which is just weird. One of those completely slingable beers that just does not excite me. Would be great to get people who only care about Goose Island, Harpoon, etc. to care about smaller craft IPAs. That said, this is really just plain jane as hell. I hope to try more SK stuff soon, but this doesn't pass the test honestly.

Solid IPA and I like that it was put in pounders which is a good thing in my opinion. Clear golden color and nice hops kick.

Nice beer. Not great but certainly a beer I would buy again and serve to friends.
