On tap at Sun Kings airport tap room, served in a pint glass
The beer pours a nearly black with ruby highlights and about two fingers worth of tan head that recedes slowly leaving a moderate amount of lacing.
Lots of roasted malt and coffee aromas, with hints of chocolate. A little weak on the nose
Taste seems to follow the nose fairly closely. Lots of roasted malt and coffee, with notes of chocolate and caramel. Some burnt/charred notes. Medium bodied, and moderately carbonated
Overall this is a decent beer that I would seek out again

Brew: Sun King Brewing Company – When the Lights Go Out
Intro: 12 oz. had on tap poured into a tulip glass. Shared with a friend.
Appearance: mostly black, Minimal head maybe .5 inch. Minimal lacing as I drank
Smell: Typical porter/stout with roasted dark grains. Some coffee headlining.
Taste: Follows the smell. Tastes a little weak and watered down
Mouthfeel: Medium mouthfeel, medium carbonation.
Drink: Easy enough drinker. Nothing special about this one at all.
Conclusion: As I mentioned, nothing special about this one at all. Seemed thin in look, smell, and taste. I’m definitely one and done. Would not waste the effort and money on this one.

The nose is a bit light. Classic dark beer notes of chocolate and coffee with malted barley, but almost smells watery somehow. However the taste is excellent and distinctive. Good chocolate, not quite dark but also not milky. A touch of coffee. The defining characteristic of this beer is the banana note, that comes through clearly but all balanced. Distinctive and delicious, if this beer had more saturated flavors, it could be a top 250 beer easy.

Decent porter with some roasty malts that give off faint notes of coffee and chocolate.

From the 12 oz can in a snifter. This nice little porter pours
a very dark brownish black with a nice head of tan foam that
settles to a thick ring, thin layer, and shows light lacing. Nose of
dark coffee, bakers chocolate, char, and cola notes. Flavors
expand on the nose with cola and dark chocolate notes surrounded
with light char and black strap molasses notes with a nice coffee
background. Decent mouth feel; medium full body, smooth, lightly
creamy, medium light carbonation, and a nice roasted finish.
Overall, a solid little brew.

Taste: toasted chocolate malt, coffee bean, not sweet but dry. Same with the nose. Black, mostly opaque, with a tan head and delicate lace. Medium body. After dinner porter. 24 IBUs

I liked this. It is not trying to be something it is not. It is through and through a coffee porter. And a good one at that! The body is creamy and chewy, goes well with coffee, malt, and chocolate flavors. The smell is like a fresh pot of coffee with hints of malt. For what it is, it does it extremely well.

Thin light tan head with a dark beer. Can see mahogany hints and rays at the bottom of the glass.
Nose is a very nice roasty coffee. Almost like an Irish Stout.
Taste follows the nose very well with that roasty coffee and almost cream hints.
A huge smooth creaminess.
Overall, good job Sun King!
