an interesting rum aged strong ale, sweet as can be, curiously packaged in a twist top aluminum bottle. its dense looking brass colored with a short head and a floral nose, i get new oak, sweet sticky toffee and honey, and even a little funk on the nose, but mostly just grain sugar when i drink it, somewhat bland even in terms of its base complexion, not as much wood or actual rum as i thought it might, but also a weird ester in here, not quite belgian, but like fortified white dessert wine or something, more honey, and just a long heavy finish. its hard to get into for me, its boozy and sugary and doesnt have a lot of depth, strong for the sake of being strong maybe, heavy to drink on, and gets to be a lot when it comes up to temperature. i dont dislike it, but i am in no hurry for more of it either. sun king has been really hit or miss for me, and this one is a little more on the miss side. i think the packaging is cool, makes it accessible, but this is way more beer in here than i really want to drink, at least of this one. forgettable overall.
