16 ounce can bottle, packaged 2018. Poured into PGW, both purchased from the brewery.
Pours a solid black, with a short lived khaki head. Just a fine ring around the interior.
Roast, raspberries and molasses are most prevalent on the nose. Karob chips too.
Taste comes through! Decadent chocolate raspberry truffle, bourbon, wood, charred wood, chicory, walnuts, earthy hop bitterness.
On the thinner side of where I like my imperial stouts. Low carbonation.
For imperial stouts and barrel aged stouts, a lot of my overall impressions come from the mouthfeel. In this instance, it hurts the overall rating for me. Bump up the mouthfeel, bump up the rating.

I tried this at the brewery and it reminded me of my good friend and old neighbors Dad's special raspberry bourbon. This was a very nice stout.

Its no secret that the combination of raspberry and chocolate create an aura of balance and complexity to dessert. In the capable hands of Sun King Brewing, that medley is put to the test in stout.
Ominously dark and with a twinge of burgundy, the raspberry infused, roasty, toasty Lyrical Poet pours with a dense blanket of tarnish froth. The yin and yang of aromas move from dark roast coffee and chocolate in one pass of the nose to raspberry and cream then next. A twinge of alcohol spice rounds out the scent ahead of a malty , robust taste of toffee, dark chocolate, brownie and sorghum wraps around the tongue with sweet introductions.
As the dark ale slathers the middle palate in a roasty sweet continuance, the background flavors of burnt toast, espresso and walnut begin to rise, And so does the condensed raspberry sweetness, berry uniqueness and balancing acidity as the stout turns to the late palate. Whisky spice brings about the taste of chambord liquor and a bittersweet finish.
Full bodied and with a long sweet linger on the tongue, the beer's richness is broken by the acidity and alcohol spice to keep the resistant malt sugars from cloying. The dessert stout sells its raspberry and chocolate harmony quite well although its powerful flavors are curious to the beer drinker early but it settles down fine near the end.
