Growler picked up at the brewery. $10 fill which isn't too shabby for a DIPA. Served in a Nonic Pint Glass.
A: Finger of dense, white marshmallow fluff. Fades fairly quickly and leaves a soapy spill on top. Pours a transparent Orange/Yellow in the glass. Some good visual carbonation and nice lacing for a DIPA.
S: Fresh, crisp hops fill your olfactory sense. Floral highlights compliment and collide with citrus notes. Some underlying malty sweetness comes through as well.
T: Right off the bat not really what i expected. Not very much citrus and very much more earthy, floral hops. A decent malty backbone kicks in some much needed sweetness. The finish is quite bitter and tongue biting, leaving a slightly medicinal taste.
M: Medium bodied. A little sticky and sweet, but I like that in a DIPA. Carbonation is average, and about your normal for the style.
D: The 9% ABV is pretty well hidden, only rearing it's head occasionally. The biggest detractor is the intense bitterness and the slight astringent medicinal flavor. I'm getting ready to pour another pint, so it's still pretty drinkable for a DIPA.
Another solid brew from Clay and Dave at Sun King. A little more balance in the hop department would have done wonders for this beer. Overall an enjoyable DIPA.
