Sampled many times over at Winterfest.
A- Poured a hazed bronze color with light orange-ish highlights when held to light. Very little off white head dies pretty quickly. Nice long streaks of lace left on the glass.
S- First thing I noticed off the get go was a oaky red wine aroma with some light funk to it. This really took over the nose with hints of raspberry and some light blackberry undertones under this. The ending of the aroma had a hint of band-aid but nothing that stood out.
T- Red wine vinegary flavor upfront with a nice funky sourness. The berry I smelled in the aroma lends itself to more of a green apple flavor which I know is a little off but it actually goes with the flavor well. Hints of oak are present in the ending of the beer. Band-aid flavor goes in the very ending of the beer. Overall not a bad flavor profile to this beer at all.
M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the style. Funk and light vinegar notes are left on the palate. Aftertaste is light band-aid flavor, some alcohol, and lactic acid. Flavors were blended well for what this beer was. There was a light green apple off flavor which actually lended a little more to the beer than it took away. Medium drying on the palate from the alcohol.
D- This beer was a good first attempt into this style for Sun King. There were a couple things off with it but for the most part it was still really enjoyable. I look forward to seeing what Sun king will do in this style for sure.
