Pours a rich, deep, clear, amber color, that shows ruby highlights when held up to the light. It is topped by a thin tan head. The aroma is nutty, with malty notes of caramel, and a hint of chocolate. The taste is smooth and creamy up front, but then moves to a rich roasted chocolate note that is really quite nice. There is a hint of bitterness in the finish, which along with the lightly astringent roasted notes help to balance the smooth, sweet caramel malt notes that are at the front of this beer. As advertised, this beer has a subtle earthy, slightly herbal hoppiness to it that is quite nice and subtly adds to the complexity of this brew. A solid example of the style that I would be happy to drink for an evening.

My friends had been raving about this beer for a while, so I finally (don't know what took me so long) got around to trying it. Amber in color with a thin tan top. The aroma is malty sweet and slightly nutty, with a hint of citric hops. The taste starts off with a big, rich malt flavor, one which develops a really nice hazelnut character mid-palate. Finishes with a surprisingly hefty citric hop flavor, and yields to a long-lasting, toasted malt aftertaste. Medium bodied and very well balanced; this is an extremely drinkable brew.
