Brewing is the craft of blending science with artistry then introducing the mystical. Field to Ferment exemplifies this adventure. We will brew this fresh hop ale throughout the entire hop harvest in Yakima using each of four hop varieties as they are harvested. At least that’s the plan. Nature may have a different plan. Such is the harvest. In order of harvest, we will brew with fresh Centennial, Simcoe, Citra, and finally Mosaic hops.
Field to Ferment represents a colossal collaboration between the brewery and our hop farmers. No one has attempted to brew fresh hop beers throughout the entire season. Please do enjoy this beer absolutely fresh and enjoy the adventure this beer represents...Because Fresh Hop Beer Matters!

Good IPA with a sharp hop taste, nice head foamy white head with a golden color. Normally fresh hopped beer doesn't have a real strong hop bite, this one does, which I wasn't expecting. Not much malt flavor, the hops control this beer's taste. Rated 11-11-2018

Clear golden brew with an abundance of white foam in the Piraat tulip. The aroma is quite delirium-inducing with citrus and melon and lingers long in the nose with every sip. Tangy mouthfeel and deliciously spritzy with the hops perfuming the works.
There's a biscuity malt flavor with even a touch of honey. some green vegetal taste. Moderate bitterness and a little astringency at the finish. I wouldn't have thought Amarillo would be one of my favorite hops, but here's the best display of it's charms that I've tasted. From the 12 oz can purchased far from Seattle.

Slightly deeper into amber than the other int he F2F series, perhaps even delving into the fringes of coppery/ruddy, but nah....
Small discrete bubbles form the carbonated crown worn herein. Settles in to a small colony of soapy bubbles and a decent but still wet and lazy bubble ring. Knocked the score down a touch mainly because of the prevalence of sediment: it seems more profound here than in the other varietals.
The nose comes at you with a similar sweet juicy form as it's kith and kin in the series, but the particular focus here is a little more indigo. Bringing out almost more like... when you defrost blueberries and that concentrated runoff thaws and is sweet and transports you back to childhood... This is aided by an almost meaty (but not like... actual meat, just the only way I can come up with to describe what I'm getting here) depth.
Flavour carries that same blueberry juice hue to the citrus driven body and offers a contrast to the cool bitterness that pervades. In contrast to the Centennial, the flavours are somewhat more focused and... intense here. Citrus pith shares space with pine.
Finish is long and bitter and unrelenting.
As with the others, there's a medium body and the malts support and complement perfectly without standing out either for their absence nor for stepping in front of the hop in any significant means.
In contrasting with the subtlty/nuance of the citra and the airy assertiveness of the centennial the amarillo is more brooding, more a creature of moss and shadow, more saturated cool colours.
Another incredible installment in the fresh hop series.

these fremont cats know their way around a wet hop, and this amarillo edition is fantastic! on tap fresh at their brewery, it doesnt get a whole lot fresher than this either. i remember the others being a little deeper and more substantial on the grain, but i could be wrong, its been awhile. this one is super light, glassy golden yellow in color, rather clear, and with a frothy lace white head on it in the globe, a very pretty beer to look at, but even better to take in! the nose is juicy and bright from the amarillo, which has a distinct tropical fruity complexion in this beer, relatively undisturbed by any malts in the aroma. pineapple and fresh flowers come to mind, and its like that in the flavor too, sort of a floral honey vibe along with the fruitiness, clean and easy though, not oily and heavy like some fresh hop beers, and still bringing enough bitterness in the finish for this to conclude like a hoppy pale or ipa should. its dry but still juicy at the end, and y appreciation for amarillo as a varietal has gone up with this single beer. what a specimen this is! also a outstanding hangover cure!

Palate Contaminants: other beer
Look is a moderately opaque, medium amber. Less head than I'd expect, but it leaves a good lacing.
Smell is slightly sweet orange with a bit of marshmallow. Intensity leaves a little to be desired.
I guess it's good that most of the taste doesn't volatilize. More orange with some bitter acidity than I can't quite say is pineapple. Pine cones. Moderate maltiness. Rye with caraway seeds, but not as much of a detriment as it sometimes is for me.
Good and moderate weight for the type. Carbonation is very well integrated. Aftertaste is bitter malt, so that could be better for me.

#430 AMAR09/18/17. 12oz can served in pint glass. Beer pours medium pale amber, hazy, with loads of white head. Aroma is floral and woodsy. Flavor is hop-forward with very gentle bitterness. A bit like chewing wildflowers, with some fruity character in there as well - peach, nectarine. This beer is a very aromatic experience. But it's well balanced, and the sweetness is kept entirely in check. My first Field to Ferment experience was a little over-carbed, this one seems creamier, and perhaps even under-carbed. Then again it was served not quite as cool.
