Shingle Town? Hope that's not where my health is headed. A beer should fix that possibility, right?
Shingle Town is bright yellow. Opauque, but not bacon fat or used oil opaque. If anything, it has a pleasant soft glowing about it. A foamy barely off white head leaves wispy lace all over the place.
From the crack of the can, I could tell that this was a unique experience. I've never smelled anything quite like it. Individual aromas, sure, but the collective is one of a kind. Fresh squeezed mangos, vanilla, and sugar cookie dough. Sounds simple enough, but it is abundant.
And the big surprise is that it tastes nothing like that. Yes, mango is there, but this is big on the grapefruit and burnt rubber. A splash of lemon and a hint of pine sap finish it off.
It's lighter than I was expecting as well. Light to maybe medium bodied, balanced, but favoring bitterness, and even well carbonated enough to tingle almost at a spritzy level.
This is one damn unique beer, but good. Surprisingly good, even if you'd never expect anything less from Fremont. It claims right there on the label, "Hazy India Pale Ale", yet this beer seems to embrace both that and a few other inspirations. I think I'll go back to New Seasons and grab another of these 'exclusive' offerings. Cheers.
