Pours slightly thinner than you would expect, maybe it's the barleywine part coming through. Dark, but not that dark, bubbles are more off white than anything.
Smell is lovely. Complex chocolate, coffee, spice, touch of dark fruit. A lot going on and I can't quite describe it.
Taste follows suit, really nice complexity here.
Feel is maybe a tad too thin, but very good nonetheless. Great stuff overall

Brown pour, opaque appearance in the glass; somewhat thin yet dense head, khaki colored and creamy. Expressive nose; chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, caramel, dark roasted grains. Intensely rich flavors; sweet milk chocolate; excellent subdued bourbon note; caramel and marshmallow. Dense, chewy body; heavy velvety touch; viscous, boozy warmth.
This stunning beer delivers the goods! It exudes dense and rich complexity in flavor and mouthfeel. Incredibly balanced and alluringly complex.

A- pours jet black in color with a one finger creamy khaki head that has great retention
S- aroma opens with amazing aromas of fresh vanilla bean, followed by plenty of oaky bourbon barrel. Undertones and marshmallow cream, caramel, toffee, maple nut chews, leather and booze soaked raisins and figs
T- flavor opens with rich chocolate brownie batter, quickly followed by a wave of vanilla bean, marshmallow cream and a hint of coconut. Mid-palate brings with plenty of barrel juice, adding oak, caramel and toffee and enhancing the vanilla. The finish brings out some dark fruit notes of figs, raisins & black cherry. Lingers if bourbon, vanilla and chocolate
M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that continues into a velvety, silky warming finish

Waxed 12.7oz bottle, pours like a porter, dark but not jet black, foamy khaki head. Lots of vanilla, bourbon, earthy, wheat, molasses, dry, oak, booze, maple, cocoa, toffee, brown sugary, toasted caramel, roasted malt, espresso, char, warmth, viscous. Unique, enjoyable sipper, nice barrel character, interesting harmony from the blonde barley wine, to me doesn’t 100% mesh with the melody of the stout. Still very good. A nice one to share.

Black opaque pour with a khaki head that slowly settles into a collar. Vanilla bomb alert! Wow it is so strong in the nose, with bourbon, barley, earthy hops, caramel and cocoa in that order of intensity. Ok so I thought the vanilla was strong in the nose... well the taste it is even stronger! The vanilla extract barrels are way too strong, bourbon is the next discernible thing, and then general stout tones of caramel I guess, way out of balance. Sweetness coats the mouth in the malty and cool feel, that honestly isn't that heavy or thick but the sugars add up immediately

one of the best beers ive had in a long time, certainly a beer of the year candidate for me this year, and really maybe the best of the the wonderful barrel aged beers these guys make, i cannot say enough about it or recommend it too strongly, absolutely wonderful. love the small format here too, more accessible, those big ones always seem to have to be occasion beers, so this is a welcome packaging change. huge stout in vanilla extract barrels blended with a blonde barleywine in nice bourbon barrels, absurd. a lot of these blends just look like stout, but this one is lightened up from midnight a bit, still viscous and dark, but more in the deep brown range, very light carbonation from the bottle but its not still. the aroma is epic, pipe tobacco, fresh split vanilla bean pods, warming alcohol, and good whiskey, quite a bit of grain complexity here overall, lots of roast, wheaty earthiness, notes of molasses and maple syrup too, some of the sexiest vanilla ever in a beer, sweet but not diabetic, addicting to me, long deep smells are very rewarding. the flavor is even better, vanilla beautifully woven all through this with layers of chocolate, espresso, maple, and bourbon all peaking out at different times, its silky and heavy as heck, it warms up super well, and the booze never totally takes over even though its always there. the blend of these two base beers is expert, the refinement high, and the vanilla element unforgettable in this, those barrels really make this special. overall one of the most compelling blends like this ive ever encountered, and perhaps even a new high watermark for fremont, who i didnt think could possibly get any better. absolutely wonderful beer, do not miss this one!

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, opaque in the glass and a half finger dark khaki head that dissipates to a thick cap with and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, bourbon, fudge, dried plums, molasses and vanilla; a bit boozy. Flavor is dark toasted malt, bourbon, vanilla, dark chocolate, dried plums ane raisins; bourbon chocolate finish. Medium to heavy bodied with moderate to thick creaminess; great mouth feel. Classic American blended strong ale profile showcasing both the stout (which reminds me of Dark Star) and the golden barley wine dark fruit character. Great chocolate notes and well integrated vanilla. A bit hot still, but big enough to support the ABV. A top notch blended strong ale. If this was an annual production, it would vie for my New Years brew with the anniversary Firestone Walker, which has been my go-to, except in years when it is mysteriously absent from our market. A fine big strong ale.
