16oz flip-top bottle from the brewery.
LOOK: Pitch black, amazing showing of lace on the glass
SMELL: Roasted grain, mildly smoky, faint molasses, lightly spicy, hint of alcohol
TASTE: Smooth & creamy, firm medium body, espresso roastiness, burnt sugar, faint licorice root, kiss of smoke, mildly acrid, ample hop bitterness, semi-dry roasty finish
A little all over the place but flavors mesh together well, very well balanced and a treat to drink.

This was a different beer for sure. An ipa with peat smoked malts, 12yo single malt Scotch and aged in Oak barrels? Sign me up.
While I give them credit for being unique, this didn't really come together as well as I had hoped. I'm not a huge smoked beer fan so going into this I was a bit skeptical. The Scotch notes were the prevailing taste and fought the hopiness of the beer. I did enjoy this but would rather the base beer have been something more on the malt forward side.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
