Gyllene Hjort, ABV: 3.3%.
500 ml can, 5.90 SEK (+ refund) at Hemköp (Ryd, Linköping).

A: The colour is gold. The head is white and leaves a ring with some lacing.

S: A sweet, malty smell with notes of citrus, flowers, raisins, grape soda and car shampoo.

T: The flavours are sweet and fruity, with a minor chemical bitterness, and hints of malt and butterscotch. But raisins - I mostly get raisins - that's just weird. Is there something wrong with my can? Or is it just cheap?

M: A small body. Moderate carbonation. It's rather smooth and easy to gulp.

O: OK, I like raisins, but considering taste and quality this is not a hit. Well, this is still a cheap and drinkable alternative, when I'm really thirsty I could go for it. The design and grammar on the can is awful, though.

The colour is deep gold; the liquid clear. The three finger head is warm beige and compact: It sinks slowly leaving some lacing.

The smell is malty and very sweet with distinct notes of butter-essence and caramel. Some chalk and flour in the background. It is quite heavy.

The taste is quite thin and dominated by the (almost artificial) buttery notes. Stale sweet flavours, some flour/dough and a very weak metallic bitterness. Thin body. The aftertaste is a little sweet caramel and lots of margarine diacetyl notes. Some frowsy hints in the finish.

The carbonation is mild; the light bubbles are medium sized. The liquid is semi-smooth.

A misrepresentation of the buttery Czech pilsners. Quite terrible.

Had no expectations of this beer before I would drink it. Still it underperformed. The horrible smell is dominated by melting butter like the popcorn you get at the movie theater. The taste is stale with tones of butter. Some metal and chemical off-flavors bothers me as well.

A nasty beer
