Big fat huge thanks to NASH for gifting me this bottle. Picked up in an in person trade from NASH at the brewery on my vacation to Halifax. The bottle survived a several thousand mile flight with 3 transfers, one being through Laguardia in NYC where it almost fell victim to customs.
I popped the flip top to a smokey gas filled pop, with plenty of still living carbonation.
About 2 inches of brown foamy head build up, receding to leave a cap of bubble islands and thick collar of retention.
Color is black "as sin" no light penetration.
Aroma is sweet and boozy, quite the bourbon bomb shell. Dark roasty malts mixing with vanilla and plenty of wonderful booze warming my nostrils. Some mild chocolate notes as well as honey and burnt caramel. Bourbon though is the main attraction in aroma and it smells so lovely.
Mouthfeel is awesome. Thick and creamy with an almost milk fat like creaminess texture across the tongue.
Mild coffee and bitter roasted grain with unsweetened bakers chocolate upfront. Toasted oak as well as bourbon now heating things up into the middle. Much more oak laced flavors coming through here. The beer is allowing me to taste all ingredients. Although the booze comes on strng it does not dominate all flavor aspects. The beer is surprisingly well balanced. Especially for the 11% abv and other the bourbon I would hae no clue to abv is so high.
Some mild burnt toffee flavors here too. Mild bittering of hops into the finish, arm and arm with lingering bourbon and oak barrel flavors.
Awsome brew from NASH. Thank you for allwoing me to taste this, very appreciative.
