On tap at the brew pub. Poured by a friendly bartender into a short-stemmed glass. Hazy amber body topped with a good finger of cream-white head. Good dense and sticky lacing. Retention could be better.
Huge citrus on the nose. Tons of papaya, grapefruit, tangerine and pineapple with pine and a little caramel. This stuff is about a week and a half from its release; probably the freshest IPA I've ever tried and it sure smells that way.
Big fresh hops in the mouth as well, with tons of grapefruit and pine, some tropical fruit (pineapple rind and guava) and a huge pithy finish. Alcohol jumps right in along side the biting hops. Balanced with just enough malt, with the intense hops threatening to overpower but not doing so. Not too much drying on the finish in spite of the lingering grapefruit.
Good medium body, slightly viscous with medium-low carbonation. Nice.
This is easily one of the top couple Canadian IPAs I've had the pleasure to drink, standing up to most of the best American examples as well. The only Canadian IPA I'm familiar with that I would even put along side this one would be Red Racer. Huge hops, balanced (-enough) and very drinkable if you're into that kind of thing (which I am). I've seen a lot of comments on Mr. Nash's IPA-brewing skills, it's great to have had a chance to try a fresh one on tap.
