Zu den 12 Aposteln “Dunkel”
€4,60/,4L vom fass at the brewery on 17 September 2021
Notes: Hazy medium-dark brown body beneath an average-sized head of dense off-white foam. The head retention is very good and it leaves thick rings of lace with each sip. The aroma suggests mildly grainy malt with soft caramel, apple, and a hint of spicy hops. The flavor delivers grainy, bready, lightly toasty, and mildly nutty maltiness with some additional caramel and leafy and spicy hops. A firm bitterness leads to a lingering dry and spicy finish. In the mouth it’s medium bodied and crisp/zesty with a seemingly natural, fine-bubbled elevated carbonation.

Had on-tap at the brewpub in Frankfurt, poured into a tall pint glass.
L: Pours a clear deep mahogany. Moderate tannish head.
S: Malts and bread. Mild hops.
T/F: Pretty fair example of the style. Malts and breads to start with, slightly sweet with some hops at the finish. Good carbonation and easy drinking.
O: An easy-drinking German dunkel. Hard to tell apart from the others I tried on this trip. If you're in Frankfurt worth a visit.

I sampled this Dunkel on-tap at the brewpub in Frankfurt, Germany. The beer was a nice light brown in color with good, rich white foam. There was no cloudiness. The aroma was malty. The taste was well balanced between maltiness and hops. Good, moderate carbonation. Very good mouthfeel (smooth and clean). The drinkability was very good. I had more than one...
