On tap at Eureka Burger – Downtown San Luis Obispo
Full pint serving – 08/18/2014
A: The beer arrives a dark hazelnut brownish amber look with some actual clearing around the edges of the glass. There rests about a half finger width of stubborn khaki suds on the surface that slowly settles out to a crown. Some faint broken tracks of decorating lace.
S: Lightly toasted malt greets with a warm nutty wholegrain bread likeness. There lies some fruity fig and raisin distinctiveness to the nose with a touch of honey drizzle. The aromas round out with a hit of spice and earthen hops. Lots of brown ale qualities present. A fairly nice waft.
T: Tastes of fruity malts with brown nuts suggesting flavors of fig jam on toasted bread. There is a faint astringent roast coffee note and the beer is pretty spicy with hops. Even more bitter than I was expecting actually but it works well with the honey-maple like sweetness. Nice dry and crisp with no alcohol presence. Some earthy mineral like quality. Pretty nice drinking Porter really.
M: Slightly thin and watered down but with ample carbonation to give a nice creamy consistency on the palate. Moderate levels of hop bitterness segue into a dry clean finish.
D: Dunbar’s brown porter is a pretty tasty little session. Has a nice mild roast quality with a honey-like sweetness counterbalanced with the hops. I have been wanting to get out to this brewery for some time now so this was a nice find on draught. Not a bad little introduction.

Sampled at the brewpub 10/16/2010 after Oaktoberfest.
Pours murky dark brown, beige head that lasts a bit but doesnt leave much lacing.
Aroma is toffee, nuts, and a fair amount of roast. Simple and nice.
Flavor is nutty and caramelly like an overly sweet brown ale but mixed with plenty of roast. Low bitterness helps to keep the roast from being overbearing.
Body is a bit heavy and the beer is drinkable but I'd like to see what else he has to offer.
