Poured a deep brown hue with a one finger foamy off white head. There was good retention and lacing.
The smell featured sweet malts and a spicy balancing hop. Touches of dry cocoa and some dark fruits were evident as well.
The taste was relatively well balanced and toward the drier end of the spectrum. Again, toasted malts and subtle dark fruits come through.
The mouthfeel was toward the lighter end of the style.
Overall a good and rather user-friendly old ale.
