Scottish slang for shush or quiet which is what you will be while drinking this hearty brown ale with hints of molasses, caramel and roasted malt. Just enough hop bitterness to balance nearly overwhelming malt richness.

Growler filled at DeCicco's, Ardsley, NY
Pours the expected darker shade of brown, murky, and supporting a moderate mocha head, going to a thin collar, cover film and nice scattered fine spotty lace.
Bit more the a hint of a maple note picked up by the sniffer.
More maple malts, light vanilla, subtle smokeyness. Decent scotch ale. Nothing amazing, but respectable, quality and sessionable.
Would work fine in a marinade of some pork or chicken.

On daft at The Lark, East Northport, NY.
Pouters deep dark amber hue with no foam to speak of. Very ominous.
The smell featured cereal malts and a light smoke.
The taste was equally understated with elements of earthy malts, caramel and smoke. Nice residual sweetness.
The mouthfeel was typical of the style.
Overall a tasty, yet understated, scotch ale.

Pours a dark brown color with a rather small wispy tan head that settles into a light ring. I don't pick much up from the aroma, seems rather bland for a scotch ale. There is some grainy sweetness but that is all that I pick up. The taste is quite similar to the smell. Quite sweet, seems as if they added some sort of sugar during the brewing process. Not much if any roasted malt or woodsy characteristics, just some sweet grain flavors. No off flavors here but just rather bland. The feel is of a moderate body, nice feel on the palate, with fizzy carbonation, finishes balanced. A very ho-hum scotch ale, nothing great about this brew.
