On draft at Hurricane Grill, Syosset, New York.

Poured a murky amber hue with a one finger frothy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a light caramel and herbal hop.

The taste was rather well balanced with a smooth crystal malt and moderate hop bitterness.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style.

Overall a good well balanced ale.

swung by the brewery after a day at the vineyards to sample the local offerings. got about a half if a pint sample. brew was an amber brown. smelled of ambrr malts not so much hops. the taste however was way more hoppy, but the body had bad carbonation, was more like a hit amber juice. decent amber but the feel killed it.

 

A - Served a clear red color with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some good lace.

S - Aroma is full of citrus hops with a bit of grassy hop and some sweet caramel malts.

T - Starts off with lots of citrus hops with a bit of bitterness and a touch of toasted caramel malt. Through the middle, some more bitterness comes through with a bit of grassy hop and malt flavor. The finish is a mix of citrus hop, bitterness, and sweet caramel malt.

M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a nice dry and crisp finish.

D - Very drinkable. Good hop and malt balance and smoothness.

A nice-looking amber colored brew, nearly clear, with a small but fluffy white head that settles slowly and some decent lacing. Expected aroma is sweet, lots of caramel maltiness, with some grapefruit and other tropical citrus notes.

Flavor is also lightly sweet and malty, balanced with the hops, which again are of mostly a tropical and citrus nature. Unfortunately the bitterness kind of overshadows the subtler, fruity aspects of the flavor. Not that this is an overly bitter beer; it’s just that that is the predominant hop characteristic and not the more flavorful side of the Chinook.

Body and carbonation both fairly medium, semi-dry finish. Decent mouthfeel with a touch of creaminess. I found this beer to be a little lackluster; perhaps an attempt at the currently very popular well-hopped red ale style. Ultimately leaves me wanting a little more hop flavor and a little less hop bitterness.

 

Exceptional beer! I usually don't go for reds. Good balance of bitterness and citrus. Similar to Red Racer IPA in taste.

Beautiful color & not overly alcoholic.

We did a eight-tap tasting menu at the brewery and I never would have guessed that this was the growler I picked to go home with, but it was the clear winner. The day after, the red tastes just as good.

 

 

 

got this as a mistake pour - had asked for stone's belgo anise RIS (so sad when i got home and poured it). not what i wanted or expected, but i'll try to be fair.

A - deep ruby color, nice initial head quickly faded into a small amount of bubbles around glass

S - bittering hops, pepper, tea, malts.. kind of reminds me of the chai.p.a. that i brewed a few months back. aftertaste is a bit toasty.

T - kind of bland in taste - mostly tea and malts with hoppy bitterness, a bit of a metallic aftertaste

M - smooth flowing, light carbonation, easy on the taste buds

O - this is an ok thirst quencher. very light and crisp. definitely not what i had in mind when i ordered the stone belgo anise stout, and i'm not looking forward to gulping down the remainder of the growler.

Pours a clear dark amber color with a short dense cream colored head that settles into a light cap.

The aroma is of light grapefruit and a hint of tropical fruit. The malt is neutral didn't pick up much there.

The flavor has more of a malty presence. There is a steely caramel flavor and an overall metallic note. Noticable bready flavor, a bit toasted. The hops are grassy and metallic, not providing much flavor, just bitterness. Finishes with a lemony tea note.

Moderate body with fairly soft carbonation. Bitter on the palate from start to finish but not strong. Drinks well enough.

More of a hoppy amber ale and probably should be labeled as such, though no info on their website. Hop profile was just ok.

 

 

A - Amber\brown with a light foam. Minimal lacing and no carbonation.

S - Smells of english malt. Scent of caramel is noted as well.

T - Initial malty flavor ends with a slight bitter bite. I like the overall taste of the beer, but it doesn't stand out from anything else on the market.

M - Very sessionable, and won't kill your taste buds.

O - A decent beer, but not one of my favorites from Greenport.

 

Got this brew from Bierkraft, in Brooklyn. I got the last two pints in the keg, which means my growler was only half full.

Appearance... Dark brown or mahogany color. I think a lot of the carbonation was lost when I opened the growler, as it was half full. Just a white rim of carbonation around the glass.

Smell... Roasted Malts. Light sweetness with a tinge of sour notes. Very light hoppy notes at the back end.

Taste... The beer is largely tasteless on the front end and in the middle. It finishes with a moderate bitterness at the back end, which lingers in the mouth for a few seconds. After the first few sips you really can't taste much because the resin-y bitterness really coats the mouth.

Mouthfeel... Good carbonation and balance of texture. The beer isn't water or too dense, but well balanced in its density.

Overall, it makes a decent Beer, but the overpowering bitterness detracts from enjoying the beer fully. Reminds me a lot of a brown ale IPA blend.
