01/23/13 On tap at Rattle n Hum, NYC. Lots of coffee on the front end. Can't compete w/porters or stouts in the body department, but since it is labeled an ale, why should it?

On draft at The Lark, East Northport, NY.
Poured a deep amber hue with a one finger frothy tan head. There was good retention and lacing.
The smell featured dry roasted malt, burnt sugar and charcoal.
The taste was dominated by a toasted and roasted malts, charcoal and an earthy sweetness.
The mouthfeel was toward the thinner side for the style with an extremely dry finish.
Overall a very flavorful ale. Complex and enjoyable.
